Wonderful CD for children
5 / 5.0
A friend of mine recommended this CD for my four-and-a-half year old daughter and I finally tracked it down and ordered it through Amazon. My daughter LOVES this CD. It is a lovely combination of fantastic music and singing, and an engrossing, funny and well-acted (lots of great voices) story that keeps my daughter absolutely entranced. We bought the Vivaldi CD in this series too and she loves that as well, but I think the Magic Flute is better produced. Pretty amazing to hear your child say, "I want to listen to Mozart!" Or, " I want to listen to Vivaldi!" She's listened to both CD's over and over. A great buy and a great way to introduce your child to classical music that isn't dumbed down.
An influence in my musical children's lives.

This was the first of the "Classical Kids" series that we owned. It was given as a gift to my oldest children when they were very young--maybe 4 and 2. They are now 18 and 16 and are very musically talented. They are also versed in the classics, and I think that this series was key for them. My younger two children (12 and 10)also have great knowledge of the classics. If you want to introduce young children to music, this series is fun--they learn so much without realizing it. Any of the other titles will do; they love the Bach and Tchaikovsky. I give it 5 stars because of it's ability to open the door to interest in classical music.

This CD version of Mozart's magic flute is wonderful. I use this with my sixt grade music class and they really get into it. The humor is very cute and makes it easy for the students to follow. The only thing I have trouble with is explaining that sarah doesnt really exist in the real opera and that sadly the dragon dies in the real opera. So I usually tell them that Sarah acts as our narrator through the story and the dragon helps. Then when they watch the met version of the opera they are extremely interested to see the actors on stage (where without this particular CD, they were'nt as excited as before). Definatley a GREAT buy, just make sure your intension is for children rather than adults. Very cute version!!

I don't remember my parents buying me this cassette... i was homeschooled and we owned every single one of the tapes in this collection. my mother and i knew the words to the songs and all the dialogue, and we still reference them in conversation lol. i do remember singing along with all the songs when i was little and now, I know the melody to every single aria in the opera and am trying very hard to learn the german words so i can sing along with the real thing. :)
the story is so funny, and they do a wonderful job of translating the words so that they make sense to the children.
man... i wanna be the Queen of the Night... she's kickass haha
and yes, I really did just buy the mp3 of this on iTunes. and not for the boys i nanny, either... for me!
Great intro to opera!

I'm a general music teacher for grades K-2. I was a vocal major in college, and I am an opera singer. I really wanted to do an introduction to opera with my 2nd graders, and I think this CD is a great tool to do just that. The Magic Flute is one of my favorite operas, and it's a perfect story for kids. The child narrator really makes the opera more approachable for children, and the performers have very clear, expressive voices, so the story is easy to follow.
